Ranchi, Nov 30: Parents of school students in Ranchi are facing great difficulty in getting their children admitted into private schools due to the mandatory age barrier in different schools of the district. At the same time, the parents also have to spend money on uniforms as the offline classes have started.

All the private schools affiliated with CBSE have an age criteria for admissions in different classes. The parents who didn’t approach for admission during the phase of the lockdown are now facing the issue of their child being over-aged.

During a survey across the district, it came to the fore that the parents are taking up unethical practices such as changing the date of birth to match the requirements of the school.

A parent seeking admission for his son in JVM Shyamali School said that his son’s age has crossed the mark required for admission in class nursery.

“During the phase of the lockdown, I didn’t have money so I thought of applying next year but now it seems impossible to get my son admitted in the school,” he said.

JVM Shyamali Principal Samarjeet Jana said that no relaxation is provided over the age cap and parents have to produce the documents to get admission.

“We have got more than 1,500 applications for admission in class Nursery and we only have 150 seats. If we provide age relaxation then we will get more than 5000 applications,” Jana said.

DAV Kapildev Principal M K Sinha also said that age relaxation is not provided and documents submitted by the parents at the time of admission will be thoroughly checked.

District Superintendent of Education, Kamla Singh, said that no notification has been released by the government for providing age relaxation on admission.

On the current issue, an expert said that if age relaxation is not given to the students, their parents will definitely search for other options and will secure the admission of their wards.
