Eight labourers die in stone quarry collapse in Mizoram

New Delhi, Nov 15: A stone quarry fell on workers, killing at least eight of them in south Mizoram’s Hnahthial on Tuesday. The bodies were found among the wreckage.

When the hill collapsed on the workmen on Monday, four labourers were trapped under the debris and are still unaccounted for. In the rescue effort, local police and citizens were assisted by soldiers from the Assam Rifles and the Border Security Force (BSF). For rescue and relief efforts, a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team made up of two officers and 13 staff members has also arrived at the scene.

“The identification of the dead bodies will be done after post-mortem examination. Search operation is still going on and will be continued till all missing are found,” said the National Disaster Response Force in a statement.

Eight out of the twelve individuals reported missing at the quarry site have had their bodies found, according to Hnahthial District Deputy Commissioner R Lalremsanga, who spoke to PTI around 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

He added the ongoing search efforts would continue until all of the missing people were located. Four of the 12 people reported missing worked for ABCI Infrastructures Pvt Ltd, while eight of them worked for a contractor, the official continued.
