Jamshedpur, Sept 8: A 48-year-old man who was a former BSF jawan was killed by an armed squad of the outlawed Naxal outfit CPI-Maoiist at a village under Goelkera Thana area in West Singhbhum in the early hours of Friday.

Identified as Shukhlal Purti, the former BSF jawan was shot dead by the Naxals on suspicion of working as a police informer.

According to sources, a group of six-seven suspected Naxals came to the victim’s house at Kashijora village and knocked at the door in the early hours today. As soon as Purti opened the door, one of the visitors shot him dead by firing from a close range.

Having killed the man, the suspected Naxals dragged the body up to the road and left it, having dropped a few pamphlets around it.

In the pamphlets, the killers had claimed the murder to be Naxal-sponsored and that whosoever will be found helping the police would meet similar consequences.

After the rebels disappeared from the scene, the victim’s son informed the Goelkera Thana, but being dark at the time, the police turned up at the Kashijora village after daybreak only.

It may be mentioned here that the Naxals have killed as many as five villagers in Goelkera and adjoining Tonto thana area within the past three weeks. The Naxals have resorted to killing innocent villagers as the police and paramilitary forces continue to carry out anti-insurgency operations in the Kolhan and Porahat forest divisions where they are hiding.
