Assuring the safety of North Indian employees in Tamil Nadu, the district collectors in Coimbatore and Tiruppur, where a significant number of migrant workers live, have now issued appeals in Hindi.
According to this statement from the district collector of Coimbatore, false information about the safety of employees from northern states in Coimbatore is being disseminated on social media and on WhatsApp, and as a result, they are abandoning the city.
Recently, a video showing migrant workers from Bihar being violently beaten went viral on social media. The chief minister of Bihar expressed his concern for the migrants’ safety on Twitter.
A few hours later, Tamil Nadu authorities asserted that the social media video purporting to show Bihar labourers being killed was fake.
“Somebody in Bihar has posted a false and misleading video regarding migrant workers from Bihar being attacked in Tamil Nadu. Two videos which are circulating on social media regarding the incident are false. The facts of the videos are twisted so as to appear that migrant workers living in Tamil Nadu are being attacked,” Posting a video on social media, DGP Tamil Nadu Shailendra Babu said.
