New Delhi, Dec 19: Following a 3-3 draw in the World Cup semifinal match between France and Argentina on Sunday, Kylian Mbappe of France claimed the Golden Boot trophy with eight goals.
Mbappe ended one goal ahead of Lionel Messi, who was awarded the tournament’s best player, to become just the second player to score three goals in a World Cup final after England’s Geoff Hurst in 1966.
The first player to score in both the group stage and each of the four knockout rounds is Messi.
The 23-year-old is tied for sixth place all-time on the record with Brazilian great Pele after scoring 12 goals in 14 World Cup games.
After Vava, who scored in Brazil’s victories in 1958 and 1962, Mbappe is the only player to score in back-to-back World Cup finals. The forward for Paris Saint-Germain has scored four goals in the World Cup finals, which is a record.
