Sasaram: A major scare unfolded at Sasaram railway station on Monday morning when a coach of the Sasaram-Patna Fast Passenger Train standing at Platform Number 6 suddenly caught fire, sending passengers into a panic and prompting immediate evacuation of the entire platform.
Fifth Coach Gutted, Fourth Partially Damaged
The fire spread rapidly, completely gutting the fifth coach of the train while the rear portion of the fourth coach was also damaged. Smoke was first spotted rising from the toilet of the B-3 coach at around 5:45 am, when passengers were boarding the train. Bystanders raised an alarm after noticing the smoke, and railway staff along with security forces swiftly evacuated all passengers and cleared the platform.
Fire Brigade Brings Blaze Under Control
The fire brigade reached the spot and brought the fire under control after considerable effort. Since the train was scheduled to depart at 6:45 am, relatively few passengers had boarded at the time, which helped avert a potentially serious tragedy.
Short Circuit Suspected, Investigation Underway
Preliminary investigation suggests the fire may have been caused by a short circuit or technical fault. Railway administration has launched a full investigation into the incident.
