Dhanbad Sept. 3: One person was killed and two others injured in a shoot-out incident on Katras- Rajganj road under Katras police station, around 40 km away from the district headquarters on Thursday night.
All the three persons were at a tea stall when some bike-borne criminals dashed on the spot and pumped indiscriminate firing on them. Eyewitnesses said criminals fired 10 to 12 rounds of bullets on them. Police recovered six empty cartridges from the spot.
A police official said the deceased has been identified as Neeraj Tiwari while his injured friends, Ronak Gupta and Rohit Gupta, are under treatment in different hospitals.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sanjiv Kumar told media persons that deceased Neeraj Tiwari and his friend Ronak Gupta had criminal antecedent. Police are investigating the incident from different angles. CCTV footage is being screened. “ Criminals would be arrested soon,” he said.
Sources said Neeraj Tiwari was involved in criminal activities but he had become a police informer recently. However, a police official denied it.
Baghmara SDPO Nisha Murmu and Katras police station officer-in-charge Rashbihari Lal, who reached the spot immediately, said that the incident occurred around 9 pm. Police took away Neeraj Tiwari and Ronak Gupta to Dhanbad hospital after the incident while Rahul Gupta who received a bullet in hand admitted to local Nichitpur hospital.
A police official said doctors at Aserfi Hospital in Dhanbad declared Neeraj Tiwari brought dead. Ronak Gupta is under treatment.
Sources said Neeraj Tiwari was on the hit list of notorious criminal Aman Singh gang for getting his accomplices arrested in Katras in connection of extortion demand from coal traders and businessmen.
