First East Zone Para-Badminton: Jharkhand pair emerges champion

Dhanbad June 27: Jharkhand pair of  Bittu Kumar of Ramgarh and Bajrangi Priyaranjan of Dhanbad won the doubles event of the First Easy Zone  Para Badminton Championship held in Kolkata.

Besides the doubles event, Bittu Kumar also bagged the bronze medal in the SL3 singles event of the championship.

The team manager said the Jharkhand pair of Bittu Kumar and Bajrangi Priyranjan dominated in the SL4 event and became champion in fashion.

Chairman of the Paralympic Badminton Association of India K Prabhakar Rao  ( who is general secretary of Jharkhand Badminton Association) was the chief guest in the closing ceremony and presented trophies to the winners and the runners-up.

The two-day First East Zone Para Badminton Championship was organized by the Bengal Para-Badminton Association (BPBA) under the auspices of the Paralympic Badminton Association of India from June 24-25.

Jharkhand  Paralympic Committee secretary  Shashi Ranjan Singh, team manager Vijay Kumar Dutta and Jharkhand Para Sports secretary Avinash Kumar congratulated  Bajrangi Priyaranjan and Bittu  Kumar for their outstanding performance in the championship and said that their achievement would encourage others to do well.

“ Both the players are now looking forward to participate in Indonesia international tournament scheduled to be held in September. Both players are actively seeking help from the Jharkhand government as it is difficult for them to participate in international tournaments without getting sponsored”.
