Dhanbad, Nov 5: The Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) has denied admission to two students on the reserved seats for handicaps after their certificate was found suspicious.
This happened as the admissions during the first counselling session took place under the First Professional MBBS admissions between November 2 and 4. The Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB) had sent a list of 40 students from the state quota of which 33 students were selected to take admissions after the first counselling.
Notably, the SNMMCH has permission for 50 MBBS seats in which the state quota is 41, seven CBSE and two are central nominees. On seven seats of the CBSE quota, only three took admittion at SNMMCH in the first counselling while the list of two central nominees is yet to come.
The sources at the medical college said that during scrutiny, the committee of four heads of the departments found the certificates of students suspicious and rejected their admission.
However, the SNMMCH admission in-charge Prof (Dr) Ganesh Kumar said that the certificates were not suspicious albeit were found objectionable as the format was wrongly filled by the civil surgeon. This is why the students were asked to come with correctly filled certificates.
Prof Kumar further said that eight seats of the state quota are still vacant and would be filled up in the second counselling scheduled to start on November 7.
Notably, last year, two students were denied admission in the first and second counselling due to suspicious certificates. The certificates seemed to be overwritten and the admission cell rejected the students twice.
Sources in the health department said that JCECEB has already sent a letter to each admission in charge of medical colleges regarding ‘Disability Guidelines’ published in the Gazette of India. Hence, members of the scrutiny committee seem to be strictly following the guidelines.
SNMMCH has already set up a scrutiny committee comprising heads of the departments of FMT Dr Jakka Sriniwas Rao, Dr Sunil Verma (biochemistry), Dr Krishna Kumari (physiology) and Dr Makradhwaj Prasad (anatomy).
