Ranchi, June 26: Aditi Shreya, a former student of DPS Ranchi, is set to participate in the 14th edition of the Nelson Mandela Human Rights World Moot Court competition in Geneva, Switzerland.
Shreya is currently a student of National Law Institute University Bhopal. While talking to a lagatar.in correspondent, Shreya said, “The Moot Court Competition at the Palais de Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, will be held from July 18 to July 21.”
Notably, Shreya completed her 12th from DPS Ranchi in 2021. She said, “I, along with my batch mate Ishita Warghat am a part of the 16-member team that is to participate in the competition. The team has been selected after several rounds of written and oral examination.”
The competitions started with the submission of a ‘memorial’ containing arguments for and against a hypothetical human rights violation of a set of individuals. After going through the presentations of 50 university teams, the organisers selected 10 from each United Nations region. The team comprising Aditi and Ishita were among 10 teams shortlisted from the South Pacific Region.
Shreya further continued, “There were four oral competitions for selection in this competition from May 23 to 29, which was seen by a panel of judges from different countries. I was selected after listening to the arguments in favor and against the given case related to human rights.”
When questioned of the stress of preperations, Shreya said, “It was due to the exhaustive preparation since February 2022 and guidance of our seniors that we have made it to the international competition in Geneva. During the selection process, we tried to come up with new points in our arguments to score over our rivals. We are now gearing up to perform well in Geneva.”
The final of this competition will be on July 21.
Notably, this competition is organised by the Center for Human Rights Pretoria University South Africa in collaboration with the United Nations Human Rights Council Secretariat.
