Mumbai, Aug 19: A four-storey building collapsed in Mumbai’s Borivali area on Friday. At least eight fire engines and fire brigade personnel have rushed to the spot, reported PTI quoting the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. No casualty has been reported so far.
The Gitanjali Building in Saibaba Nagar of Borivali West collapsed around 12.34 pm. Officials said that the building had already been vacated after the BMC declared it a dilapidated structure.
However, the Fire Brigade reported the incident and is on the spot checking if there are people trapped under the debris. Eight fire engines, two rescue vans and three ambiences are already on site.
Meanwhile, a search and rescue operation is underway to check if anyone is trapped underneath the debris. The Mumbai fire brigade has declared the collapse as L-2 level.
The dramatic collapse of the building was caught on camera. The visuals showed people standing across the road watching it come down.
Earlier this month, a portion of a five-storey residential building in the Dahisar area of Thane city collapsed, but nobody was injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, a 40-year-old died and 19 others sustained injuries after a ground plus two-storey shanty collapsed at Shastri Nagar, Bandra West in June.
