Ranchi, Sept 5: Though the Hemant Soren government won a trust vote in the house getting support of 48 of 82 MLAs, senior legislator Saryu Roy termed it a futile exercise saying it has actually exposed the weakness of the government.
“When Hemant Soren had taken oath he had support of 54 MLAs but today his support strength reduced to 48. That time support was natural but this time support appears to be forced. The way they were taken to different places before they were brought in the house for voting appeared that someone kept knives on their necks to bring them in the house. The exercise gave an impression that the government has no confidence in its legislators,” Roy said.
Roy had supported Soren when latter was sworn in as chief minister in 2019. This time he did not extend his support. He boycotted the voting like BJP and Ajsu Party legislators. Before boycotting the voting he had also cornered the government for its false reply in the house and adopting corrupt practices.
Asked Roy why he did so, he said, ”I had supported the government expecting that it would do something to root out corruption but this did not happen. Thus I preferred not to vote.”
Asked whether the exercise of seeking vote of confidence will be of any help for Hemant Soren facing disqualification threat following allegation of misuse of official position to get a mining lease in his name, Roy said: ‘no’.
Explaining why Roy said: “Majority in the house cannot be used as a shield against corruption.”
