Dhanbad, Sept 13: Vinita Singh, granddaughter-in-law of one of the founders of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Binod Bihari Mahto, would donate 23 acres of land to the state government for a stadium, engineering college, and museum in Dhanbad.
Vinita Singh said that she has sent a proposal to the state government in this regard. As per the announcement 11 acres of land would be for the construction of an international standard stadium, 8 acres of land for an engineering college, and 4 acres of land for the museum in the name of late Binod Bihari Mahto.
The land is situated in Bandarchuan, Dhangi near BBM College Baliapur area in the district that is suitable for constructing an international standard stadium, engineering college, and museum.
“Dhanbad is called the coal capital of the country but it lacks the basic infrastructure of connectivity and standard health services as well as medical education. Airport and AIIMS both went out from Dhanbad and no one spoke against it. My family has dedicated life to the separate state of Jharkhand. So I decided to donate 23 acres of land for the development of the state,” she said today.
Binod Bihari Mahto along with Shibu Soren and late Dhanbad MP AK Roy had launched the Jharkhand separate movement in the 1970s and formed the JMM. Binod Bihari Mahto was elected for the Bihar assembly from the Sindri constituency in 1980, 1985 and 1990. In 1991 he was elected for the Lok Sabha from Giridih constituency.
His son Rajkishore Mahto was also elected from the Giridih Lok Sabha constituency and later from Tundi assembly constituency in 2010.
