New Delhi, July 18: The Supreme Court has received a fresh plea asking for the restoration of the privilege to revere the Shivling that the court commissioner discovered within the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi.
Advocate Vishnu Jain raised the issue before a bench consisting of Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana, Justices Krishna Murari, and Hima Kohli.
“The appeal by Muslim side challenging survey is coming up on July 21. Please list this along with this matter,” the counsel submitted.
The case will be heard by the court on Thursday, July 21.
The newly filed suit further requests that the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust Board be instructed to take control of the Shivling found during the court commissioner’s survey. The petition was submitted by attorneys Hari Shankar Jain and Vishnu Shankar Jain.
Additionally, the petitioners requested that the Shivling be carbon dated by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in accordance with the laws outlined in the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act.
Additionally, the ASI was given instructions to find out what kind of building existed under the Shivling.
In the interim, it was requested that the Central government be instructed to set up live streaming technology so that worshippers might do symbolic pooja and receive virtual darshan.
The Supreme Court is currently hearing an appeal contesting the Allahabad High Court’s decision allowing a commissioner appointed by the court to inspect, survey, and record video of the mosque.
