Varanasi, Oct 15: The Anjuman Intezamia Committee which represents the Muslim side has moved the Allahabad High Court in the Gyanvapi Shrinagar Gauri dispute case. It has challenged the verdict of the lower court which stated that the case is maintainable.

The Muslim side has contested the decision to dismiss the objection application in the Allahabad High Court.

On September 12, a Varanasi district court rejected the Anjuman Intezamia Committee’s plea against Hindu worshippers’ request for permission to perform daily deity worship in the Gyanvapi mosque. District Judge AK Vishvesh while delivering the verdict had said the case is maintainable.

The court had rejected the Muslim side’s motion and declared that the Hindu parties’ suit could still be maintained in court. On October 18, the high court will hear the case.

Earlier, the petition filed by four Hindu parties asking the Varanasi court to direct the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to carry out a scientific investigation to determine whether an object discovered during the survey of the Gyanvapi Mosque grounds is a Shiva linga or a fountain was denied on Friday.

Dr. AK Vishvesha, a district judge, issued the ruling. The judge referred to the Supreme Court’s directive to seal the location of the Shivalinga’s discovery. The judge decided that no scientific research could be permitted in light of this.
