Varanasi, May 15: The Gyanvapi-Shringar Gauri complex assessment began for the second day on Sunday amid heavy security. “The survey will be done between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.,” said Advocate Vishal Singh, a court-appointed special assistant commissioner.
The police closed off the road near the complex to maintain law and order in the neighbourhood. In addition, on the first day of the survey, Saturday, all shops within a 500-meter radius of the complex were closed.
“Darshan has been arranged for all. All the routes have been opened so that the visitors do not face any problems and police personnel have been accordingly deployed. Right now entry is being given to a member of the commission from one gate and devotees are having darshan from the rest,” said Varanasi DCP RS Gautam.
The survey is being carried out in line with the order of the Varanasi civil court to complete the survey. The survey resumed on Saturday after being halted last week owing to complaints from the Mosque committee. District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma told PTI that 50 percent of the survey was done on Saturday.
The problem surrounding the Gyanvapi-Shringar Gauri complex began with a petition filed by a group of women seeking permission to worship every day in front of the Shringar Gauri temple, which is located on the Mosque’s outside wall.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court rejected an interim order of status quo on the survey last Friday.
