New Delhi: In a heart-wrenching statement, Malati Roy, the mother of Sanjay Roy, who has been convicted in the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case, said she has no objections if the court sentences her son to death. Sanjay was convicted by the Sealdah Court for the brutal crime committed on August 9, which sparked nationwide outrage.
Mother’s Acceptance of Verdict
Malati Roy, speaking from her home, said:
“If the court decides to hang him to death, I don’t have any objection as his crime has been proved in the eye of the law. I will cry alone but accept it as a quirk of fate, something willed by destiny.”
Standing just five kilometers away from the court where the verdict was delivered, Malati revealed that her frail health prevented her from attending the hearing. However, she added:
“Had the charges been untrue, I would have tried to attend the proceedings despite my failing health.”
Expressing sympathy for the victim’s family, Malati said:
“I can feel the anguish and pain of the mother of the woman medic who is like my daughter.”
Malati shared that she had three daughters, one of whom passed away years ago.
Sister Reflects on Sanjay’s Life
Sanjay’s sister painted a complex picture of his life, describing him as a normal child who later turned to alcohol.
“As he grew up, he turned to booze, but I never heard of him misbehaving with any woman. However, we lost regular contact as he lived separately, so I am unaware of his recent associations or actions,” she said.
She also raised concerns over the possibility of others being involved in the crime:
“Media reports suggest Sanjay may not have been alone at the crime scene. I hope investigations have been thorough. If others were involved, they should also be brought to justice.”
Charges and Sentencing
Sanjay Roy has been convicted under BNS Sections 64, 66, and 103(1) for rape, causing death, and committing murder. The court is set to announce the quantum of punishment on Monday.
