Haridwar: On the auspicious occasion of the last Somvati Amavasya of 2024, thousands of devotees gathered in Haridwar and Prayagraj to take a holy dip in the sacred rivers, including the Ganga. Despite the biting cold on Monday morning, devotees flocked to Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar to perform rituals and offer prayers.
Pilgrims from Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Delhi, and other states arrived in large numbers. According to ancient scriptures, bathing in the Ganga on Somvati Amavasya is believed to cleanse sins and grant divine blessings. Alongside bathing, devotees also engaged in charitable acts.
Robust Security Measures
To ensure safety, the fair area in Haridwar was divided into 14 zones and 39 sectors. Heavy police deployment was in place, with SP City Pankaj Gairola designated as the nodal officer for the fair. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramendra Dobhal inspected the arrangements and directed officials to stay vigilant.
Prayagraj Witnesses Massive Turnout
In addition to Haridwar, Prayagraj and other parts of the country also witnessed large gatherings of devotees taking a dip in rivers and performing religious ceremonies on this sacred day.
