Hazaribag, Oct 27: The 570 damaged stairs of the popular Canary hill will soon get renovated as the forest department has received a fund of Rs 18 lakh which also includes money for the work to repair the gazebo at the top of the picturesque hill.
The stairs were constructed between 1955 to 1960 but no fund was sanctioned ever for its renovation, resulting in its damage.
Canary hill is a popular tourist destination situated at one corner of the town known for its greenery and picturesque spots and various selfie points. From the gazebo at its top, the view of the town mesmerises those reaching here.
Divisional Forest Officer Saurabh Chandra said that the demand to repair these stairs is a long demand of the people here. He said the work will start soon in this regard.
According to the locals, the Canary is such a beautiful site that those coming here want to visit again. But no effort was made ever to develop this spot into a tourist destination with the best facilities. “Once developed, this will get good tourists round the year generating revenues to employment for local people,” they added.
This hill has various varieties of invertebrates to butterflies. World’s most beautiful butterfly peacock pansy also is spotted here. India’s highest ant hill was discovered by independent researcher Mrityunjay Sharma at the foothills of Canary.
