VISHVENDU JAIPURIAR
Hazaribagh, Feb 24: A large number of vehicles used by police have been dumped on the campus of the police line to rot over the last many years. The cost of all these vehicles is above Rs two crores. These vehicles are not being auctioned for more than 10 years. All the vehicles are lying outside in the sun, rain and cold.
Sources in the police line said around 86 big, small four-wheelers beside two-wheelers are rusting here. These include 55 bikes, 10 jeeps, 10 Boleros, 10 vehicles of the mini door, one Vajra vehicle and 10 Tata Safari, whose estimated value is said to be around two crores.
An officer said there is no fund to repair the vehicles used by police. So once a vehicle starts creating problems, it is left in a police line under the sky.
The officer said there is very little fund they get from the department for the repair of police vehicles. It is between Rs 2000 to Rs 5000 only and so when defective vehicles repair needs more amount, they are left with no other option but to dump it in the police line.
Hazaribagh Superintendent of police Manoj Ratan Chauthe said that the process of auction of vehicles parked in the police line will be started soon. For this, all vehicles have to be listed. he will direct the concerned officer in this regard.
