Hazaribag, June 7: A youth Rajan Kumar who was wanted in a rape case tried to hoodwink the police by making his cousin sit in a wedding dress pretending as the groom. Rajan then left for a village in Barkatha to get married. But when the police raided the house and caught his cousin in the wedding dress, Rajan’s planning came to the fore.
Sources said a girl had lodged an FIR against Rajan, a resident of Barsot village in Barhi for raping her. The case was registered in mahila thana in March this year. Since then, Rajan was evading his arrest.
On Monday, the victim again approached the police and said Rajan’s marriage is finalised in Barkatha which would take place on June 6. She even made available the invitation card for his marriage.
A police team raided Rajan’s house in Barsot village, 36kms away from town and found a youth in a wedding dress there. The team brought the youth to Mahila thana and grilled him. Officials remained shocked to know that the youth they caught was not Rajan, an accused in a rape case but his cousin Reetlal. He said Rajan forced him to dress up as a groom and to sit at home to hoodwink the police so that his marriage can take place without any problem.
Officer-in-charge of the mahila thana, Varsha Rani Toppo confirmed the incident. She said the police in Barkatha were alerted after getting this information from Reetlal. Sources said Rajan’s marriage plan was foiled due to the alertness of the police.
