VISHVENDU JAIPURIAR

Hazaribag, Nov 14: A police constable named Neelkamal, posted in police lines, was caught and beaten up mercilessly by some villagers who went to meet a woman in Churchu. The villagers alleged that he was having an illicit relationship with a widow.

After the incident, Superintendent of Police Manoj Ratan Chauthe suspended Singh and directed Vishnugarh SDPO Anuj Oraon for further action.

Sources said Singh was earlier posted in Churchu and was charged for misbehaving with villagers. According to them, Neel developed a relationship with a widow there and kept visiting her even after he was transferred to police lines in the town.

On Sunday, when he visited there again, the villagers all of a sudden reached the house of the widow. They knocked on the door of the house making Singh open the door who was wearing a towel around his waist. This angered the villagers and they started beating him which resulted in several cuts on his body. He was later brought to the Hazaribag medical college and hospital for treatment.

However, when asked, Singh said that the woman is her cousin and so he went to meet her. He said he was in the towel as he attended to nature’s call. He rubbished all allegations by the villagers and said he was beaten up mercilessly with rods.

Meanwhile, police officials said that a probe has been initiated in this case.
