Jamshedpur, Aug 14: Rain might play spoilsport at some places across Jharkhand during the Independence Day celebration this year.

IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued an alert of heavy rain especially in some isolated pockets of southern Jharkhand on August 15, Tuesday.

Today’s forecast indicated light to moderate rain in many places.

The Met Centre also predicted heavy showers on August 16 and August 17.

The western end of the monsoon trough was today running close to the foothills of the Himalayas and its eastern end at mean sea level passing through Gorakhpur, Darbhanga, Malda and thence eastwards towards Nagaland.

The trough from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim to the northwest Bay of Bengal was today seen as a cyclonic circulation over east Bangladesh and its neighbourhood at 0.9 Km above the mean sea level with a trough between 1.5 and  3.1 km above mean sea level and runs roughly along Long. 90°E to the north of Lat. 20°N.

Light to moderate rain was experienced at many places over the state during the past 24- hours.

Weathermen said monsoon activity was normal over the state during the past 24- hours.

Statistics revealed that Jharkhand was still facing a rain deficit of 38 per cent. Against a normal of 638 mm, the state has so far received 398 mm of rain, resulting in a 38 per cent deficit.
