MANOJ SINHA

Ramgarh, April 112: A herd of wild elephants trampled a woman to death at Purnadih of Chotkidundi Panchayat under the Kuju OP area in Ramgarh district.

According to the information received, the deceased, who was the wife of local resident Vasudev Mahto, went to the nearby forest to pick up Mahua at night where she was killed by a herd of wild elephants.

There is an atmosphere of mourning and panic in the village after the incident. The matter has been reported to the Forest Department.

Such elephant attacks in the villages and coal belts of the district are very common. So far, many people including women and children have lost their lives due to elephant attacks. The herds also destroy farmers’ standing crops and demolish their mud houses.

Locals allege that the forest department has no proper equipment to drive away the herd of elephants from near human settlements and save people from the attacks of elephants.
