Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Friday heard the bail plea of suspended IAS officer and former Ranchi Deputy Commissioner (DC), Chhavi Ranjan, who is accused in a high-profile land scam case. The court directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to file a response to Ranjan’s plea and scheduled the next hearing for four weeks later.

Details of the Land Scam Case

The case pertains to the sale of land under military possession in the Bariatu area of Ranchi’s Bargain block. The ED has already filed a chargesheet against several accused, including Chhavi Ranjan, prominent businessman Vishnu Agarwal, revenue sub-inspector Bhanu Pratap Prasad, fake claimant of the land Pradeep Bagchi, and land dealer Afzal Ali.

The chargesheet also names Imtiaz Khan, Talha Khan, Faiyaz Khan, Mohammad Saddam, Amit Agarwal, and Dilip Ghosh. The court has taken cognizance of the chargesheet, and Ranjan has also challenged this cognizance in his plea.
