In the month running up to the World Cup, the management of the Indian team had to deal with a number of setbacks. The first player to be ruled out was the all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja because of a knee ailment. A few weeks prior to the team’s departure for Australia, word of Bumrah’s back ailment was received.
Notably, Bumrah missed the UAE’s September Asia Cup campaign owing to a back ailment. In an effort to be safe, the BCCI decided to withdraw Bumrah from the continental competition.
