Dhanbad, Aug 2: IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad’s Mechismu Racing Electric team bagged third position in the Seventh Annual Formula Student Electric Vehicle Concept Challenge international competition held in Bangalore.
The international competition was organized by Formula Bharat in which the Indonesia team got the first position and Islampur, India team second.
An official said the IIT ISM team besides the third position in Pi EV 2023, also won the best Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (FMEA) award and bagged the third place in the Procurement Strategy and Engineering Design events.
The members of the IIT ISM team were Divyansh Bansal, Aniket Kumar Sahu, Mudit Virmani and Gunda Akshaya (Steering & Suspension); Amit Hurmade, Vidushi Omar, Swarnendu Saha (Brakes); K Vivek, Shiv Prakash Mahto, Nikhil Kumar Bharti, Herambh Dakshinamoorthy (Powertrain); Tanisha Chandra, Rudra Pratap Singh Panwar, Muntaba Khan (Chassis); Dheeraj, Avula Neeharika, Sushant Kumar Roy and Roshan Sai Chandra (Operations and Sponsorship).
Team Mechismu Racing is a formula student team established in the year 2008 that conceptualizes, designs, fabricates and races its formula-style race cars in several national and international events.
Herambh Dakshinamoorthy, one of the leading members of the team Mechismu Racing (who is also Tech Coordinator of Electric Mobility Club) said that after a successful sprint in the internal combustion engine category in the past, they decided to shift to electric vehicles in the year 2022.
“This year, which is our second attempt in the Electric Vehicles arena we have been able to bag a podium position, with a team from Islampur, India,” said Dakshinamoorthy.
He further added that with the new achievement, they became one of the very few IITs that have got a top spot in the competition.
He disclosed that the team members are currently working on fabricating the physical human-size model of this car. Since it is a student-run team, alumni, well-wishers, fellow students and professors of the institution help in this project.
Dakshinamoorthy while appealing for fund help added that with the support, they will become the fifth IIT in the country to build an electric race car.
