Dhanbad, May 2: Fast Forward India, a social organization of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad students, donated 161 units of blood to bail out crisis-ridden government as well as private hospitals of the district.
The blood donation camp was organized at IIT ISM health centre on May Day from 9 am to 5 pm under the supervision of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) blood bank in-charge Ajay Kumar Singh and Dr Amrendra Kumar Singh. It was organized in collaboration with IIT ISM students and HDFC Bank.
Members of Fast Forward India said that the collected blood was given to the SNMMCH blood bank and Asian Dwarka Jalan Memorial Hospital for catering requirements of poor and needy patients in the coal belt.
“Blood crisis is the perennial problem of Dhanbad. Members of Fast Forward India hold mega blood donation camps in the institution for hospitals and blood banks from time to time. Sometimes members also go to donate blood at the hospital if they find the life of the patient at stake,” said an organizer.
Fast Forward India members said that the camp had to continue one and half hours more (till 6.30 pm) than the scheduled timing of 5 am after having seen the massive line of students and their zeal toward donating the blood. “Such zeal of students helped us to achieve the blood collection target of the mission,” said an organizer.
SNMMCH blood bank’s Dr Amrendra Kumar Singh while highly appreciating the efforts of Fast Forward India said that IIT ISM students always come forward for a donation whenever a blood crisis crops up. The camp was well organized. Besides IIT ISM, a blood donation camp was also organized at Delhi Public School (29 units) and Jharia Matriya Sadan (12 units).
“Donation of IIT ISM students’ organization has enhanced the stock of blood in SNMMCH blood bank,” said Dr Singh.
