Dhanbad Jan 31: Indian Medical Association (IMA) state women’s wing, while expressing satisfaction over arrest of lady doctor’s abductor in Latehar, has demanded deployment of police officers as nodal officers for protection of doctors and health centres in each district of Jharkhand.
IMA Women’s wing state president Dr Bharti Kashyap said that the arrest of Dr Neelima Kumari’s abductor has restored a sense of safety among the doctors of state, especially those working in remote health centres.
“But we urge the state government to appoint a senior police officer as nodal officer for protection of medico and hospitals in each district,” Dr. Kashyap said.
“For protection of doctors and hospitals, the previous government had appointed deputy superintendent of police (DSP) rank police officers as nodal officers in each district. But in the regime of the present state government, the appointment has been stopped. Such an incident would not have taken place in any corner of the state if nodal officers were appointed,” she added.
Dr Neelima Kumari, the medical officer was abducted from Community Health Centre (CHC) Chandwa of Latehar district on January 12 by abductors and was released from Ramgarh district after paying a ransom of Rs 2.5 lakh.
Doctors of the state had been on boil since her abduction and were demanding the arrest of abductors. A delegation of IMA women’s wing under Dr Bharti Kashyap had also met DGP Neeraj Sinha two days ago in this regard.
Finally, the Latehar police arrested one abductor on Sunday and sent him to judicial custody today.
