Ranchi: The Ranchi chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has objected to the health department’s suspension of Tulip Hospital’s license, with its chairman arguing that such action should not be taken without first issuing a notice and seeking the hospital’s response.

License Suspended After Health Minister’s Directive

The health department suspended the license of Tulip Hospital, located on Ring Road, following a strict stance taken by Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari. Acting on this direction, Ranchi Civil Surgeon Dr. Amarendra Prasad carried out the suspension. In protest against the move, doctors held a meeting at the IMA building, attended by IMA office-bearers along with Dr. Bimlesh Singh, president of JHASA (Jharkhand Hospital and Nursing Home Association), who raised concerns over the manner in which action was taken against the hospital.

IMA Says Hospital Should Get a Chance to Respond

IMA Ranchi chairman Dr. Shekhar Chaudhary said that directly suspending a hospital’s license is not appropriate. He said the hospital should first be served a notice and asked to respond, with a decision taken only after a proper inquiry. The IMA has formed a committee to look into the matter, which will seek documents from Tulip Hospital’s management related to the grounds on which the license was suspended. The committee is also scheduled to meet the Civil Surgeon on Tuesday to understand the reasons behind the action. The IMA said that the way action was taken against Tulip Hospital has raised concern among other private hospitals as well, adding that management should be given an opportunity to present its side if any shortcoming is found.

Organisation Does Not Support Mistreatment of Patients or Families

JHASA chairman Dr. Bimlesh Singh said the IMA has reservations about the process followed in suspending the license, but clarified that the organisation does not support any assault or misbehaviour toward patients or their families at hospitals. He said that if any patient or family member faces mistreatment at a hospital, they can file a complaint with the IMA, and necessary action will be taken after investigating such complaints. The meeting was attended by several doctors, including Dr. Anant Sinha, Dr. Abhishek Ramadhin and Dr. Rajesh Kumar.
