Jamshedpur, May 22: IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre today issued a heat wave alert in Jharkhand with the possibility of Loo in several places.
Weathermen said severe weather condition was prevailing in Jharkhand with the day’s reading touching as high as 44 degree Celsius in Kolhan and several other isolated pickets of the state.
Today’s discomfort index was also found to be very high with several places including Jamshedpur, Deoghar, Daltonganj and Garhwa notching 10 points above normal.
No significant synoptic system prevails over the state of Jharkhand.
Dry weather prevailed over Jharkhand during the past 24- hours. The highest maximum temperature of 44°C was recorded at Jamshedpur while Daltonganj recorded 43°C.
A climate analyst at IMD’s Kolkata centre said heat waves would prevail over North-Western and South-eastern parts of the state.
Thunderstorm and Lightning accompanied by strong surface wind (speed: 30-40 kmph) is also likely to occur at isolated places over eastern parts of the state today.
Meanwhile, IMD issued an appeal asking people not to venture out of their homes in the afternoon so as to avoid sunstroke.
