IMD issues orange alert for 4 districts of Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad, Nov 29: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for Andhra Pradesh forecasting heavy rainfall. The ‘Orange’ alert has been issued for four districts, including Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, and Kadapa.

The IMD has also warned the fishermen against venturing into the sea.

Meanwhile, a cyclonic storm may form over the Bay of Bengal in the first week of December. Under its influence, from December 3 to 5 heavy rainfall is expected over south Odisha and North Coastal Andhra.

“A low pressure area would be formed over South Andaman Sea by November 30, move in a west northwest direction and reach West Central Bay of Bengal. Thereafter, it is likely to intensify into a depression by December 2,” said the director general of IMD, Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra.

On the other side, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, Thunderstorm with heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts. Thunderstorm with light to moderate rain is also likely to occur at many places over the rest Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Notably, as many as 44 people have died and 16 are still missing in Andhra Pradesh due to floods after the unprecedented rain in the state even as officials said the situation was grim on Saturday.
