New Delhi, Dec 11: Sustaining a thumb dislocation injury during the recently finished ODI series, India Test captain Rohit Sharma will not play in the opening Test against Bangladesh on Sunday. The BCCI stated in a statement that KL Rahul will captain India in place of Rohit for the first Test.
“India captain Rohit Sharma met with a specialist in Mumbai for his left thumb injury, which he sustained during the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh. He has been advised of appropriate management for this injury and will not be available for the first Test against Bangladesh,” the BCCI said.
As Rohit’s substitute, Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran has been added to the team. Recently, Easwaran led the India A squad on a two-game trip of Bangladesh. With 299 runs in two innings, the 27-year-old finished the series as the series’ top run scorer.
The BCCI also acknowledged that all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and bowler Mohammed Shami have not sufficiently healed from their individual injuries. Along with Jaydev Unadkat, a left-arm seamer who might make a comeback to the Test XI after 12 years, Navdeep Saini and Saurabh Kumar, members of the Indian A team, have been included to the squad.
