The Indian women’s hockey team has qualified for the semifinals of the Hockey Women’s Nations Cup 2025-26 with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Uruguay, completing a hat-trick of wins against USA, Japan, and Uruguay to finish at the top of Pool A. USA have also advanced to the semifinals as the second-placed team in the pool.
Match Summary
Uruguay drew first blood through Kiara Apenino in the 13th minute. India equalized through Deepika in the 24th minute, then went ahead through a Deepika Soreng goal in the 43rd minute. Uruguay levelled again via Manuela Villar in the 55th minute, but India responded almost immediately with Deepika scoring again in the 56th minute to seal the win. Uruguay made several attempts to level in the closing minutes but could not breach India’s defence.
