New Delhi, April 6: During a debate on the Ukraine issue in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar declared that India ‘strongly condemns’ the killings in Ukraine’s Bucha city.
“Many MPs brought up the incident in Bucha and I want to say that we’re deeply disturbed by the reports. We strongly condemn the killings which have taken place there. It’s an extremely serious matter & we support the call for an independent investigation,” said EAM in Lok Sabha.
He pushed on an immediate halt to hostilities, stating that India supports Ukraine-Russia negotiations. “This was the message that was sent to Lavrov. We will gladly consider India’s cooperation if it is possible.”
“We are deciding what’s in our best interest. In a complex situation, every nation adopts policies that safeguard the well-being of its population. We need to ensure that the common person in India is not subject to additional and unavoidable problems,” he said.
What is India advocating in #Ukraine? We're, first & foremost, strongly against the conflict. We believe that no solution can be arrived at by shedding blood & at the cost of innocent lives. In this day & age, dialogue & diplomacy are the right answers to any disputes: EAM in LS pic.twitter.com/XMFYme5Txx
