New Delhi, July 13: After their convincing victory in the opening game of the three-match series against England at The Oval, India has risen to the third spot in the ICC ODI Team Rankings, moving ahead of Pakistan.
India was ranked fourth in the most recent table with 105 points, but their 10-wicket victory on Tuesday helped them move up to 108 points, surpassing Pakistan, which was ranked fourth with 106 points. With 126 rating points, New Zealand continues to hold the top spot, followed by England in second place with 122.
After sweeping the West Indies last month, Pakistan had knocked India down to No. 4 in the rankings. Australia’s decline following their series defeat in Sri Lanka also helped.
Their time at No. 3 was, however, brief as India quickly occupied the position.
With two more one-day internationals against England and a three-match series against the West Indies later this month, India might increase the margin of their lead even further.
In contrast, if India loses the final two games of the series against England, they risk falling farther behind Pakistan and into fourth place. In their upcoming one-day international match against the Netherlands in Rotterdam, Babar Azam’s team will play three 50-over games over the course of five days.
