New Delhi, Dec.4: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah said on Saturday that India will tour South Africa for three Tests and three One-Day Internationals, with the four T20Is scheduled for later.
“The BCCI has confirmed to CSA that the Indian team will play three Tests and three One-Day Internationals. The final four Twenty20 Internationals would be played at a later date,” Shah said.
On Thursday, a BCCI official informed that both boards are in constant contact and that the decision will be made with the players’ safety in mind.
“We are discussing to push back the series by a week due to the threat of Omicron COVID variant and we are awaiting the Indian government nod, both boards are in constant touch and everything is being discussed. The health and safety of our players is of utmost importance,” the senior official said.
Earlier, India was supposed to play three Tests, three One-Day Internationals, and four Twenty20 Internationals in South Africa.
Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, has previously stated that the BCCI should get government approval before sending the cricket team to South Africa, where a new COVID-19 variation had arisen.
