New Delhi, June 8: The Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams left for Brussels on Wednesday ahead of the FIH Hockey Pro League, which will take place on June 11 and 12. On June 11 and 12, both Indian teams will face Belgium in a doubleheader.
“Obviously, we are excited for this trip as we have been given a great opportunity in the form of FIH Hockey Pro League games to play against some of the top teams in Europe,” said India women’s team captain Savita prior to the team’s departure.
With 22 points in eight games, the Indian women’s team is presently in third place in the FIH Pro League table. Only Argentina (38 points) and the Netherlands (37 points) are ahead of it at the top of the table (second position- 26 points).
The Indian squad, on the other hand, has played fewer games than Argentina and the Netherlands and has a chance to advance if they win all of their remaining matches. The Indian men’s team is currently in second place in the FIH Pro League standings. It is only three points behind the Netherlands, who are now in first place.
“We are delighted to play against some of the top teams in the world on their home soil,” said India men’s team captain Amit Rohidas in a Hockey India release.
