Jamshedpur, June 8: It turned out to be a scorching Wednesday across the state with most places recording high discomfort index.
Daltonganj, the Palamu headquarters, fared the worst with the mercury soaring to over 45 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day.
Cases of heat-stroke and gastroenteritis have been reported from several parts of the state, especially the north-western region which is again in the grip of a heatwave.
The police recovered a body of a beggar lying abandoned in Daltonganj this morning.
Statistics available from the Patna Meteorological Centre, which monitors weather conditions in both Bihar and Jharkhand, revealed that Daltonganj was the hottest place in the state on Tuesday with the mercury shooting up to 45.4 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperature hovered between 41 to 44 degrees Celsius at several places in the north-western region. Bokaro, Jamshedpur and several other parts of Kolhan recorded 40 degrees Celsius today.
The entire state is in the grip of westerly winds. The weather chart also indicated that westerly winds are dominating over the state.
However, there are possibilities of the development of thunder clouds in some places.
The study of the weather chart indicated that cyclonic circulation is prevailing in the upper layer of the atmosphere over eastern Uttar Pradesh. In case the cyclonic circulation moves towards the eastern side, there is a possibility of rainfall and thunderstorm at some isolated places in Bihar and Jharkhand, said a senior weather chart analyst.
The heat severely affected normal life. Roads wore a deserted look as people preferred to stay indoors to avoid the sultry weather condition in several districts.
