Ranchi, July 8: Keeping in mind the problems of Lord Shiva devotees, a Bori bandh was constructed on Banai river with the community effort on Friday.

A locality resident, Ajay Sharma, informed about the indigenous dam construction explaining the circumstances it was done.

“On every Monday, about 15 to 20 thousand devotees from Ranchi, Khunti, Chaibasa, Jamshedpur and other places reach Banai river first. After taking their bath and worshiping they take 3 km walk for Amreshwardham with holy water to perform Jalabhishek to Bhole Baba. But this year, after four days of monsoon, the flow of water in Banai river was very less due to scanty rainfall. Anticipating the problem of devotees on the first Monday, the decision was taken for a Bori bandh construction,” the resident, who played a role in the dam construction, said.

‘Bori bandhs’, low-cost check dams, are made by filling sand and soil in cement bags. These ‘filled’ bags are then kept one atop of the other to prevent the water from flowing in the local rivulets. By doing this, a sufficient amount of water is saved throughout the year for irrigation and the water levels in the wells are also maintained.

Sharma sharing pictures said: “After the Bori Bandh was constructed much water accumulated in the river. The District Administration, CRPF 94 Battalion, Sewa Welfare Society, Gram Sabha Peloul, JMM, BJP, Panchayat representatives and other social workers contributed to the construction of Bori Dam. The most important contribution was of CRPF 94 Battalion.”.
