New Delhi, Feb 25: The Indian Premier League 2022 will begin on March 26. The final will take place on May 29th.
Officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) met virtually with members of the Governing Council to make the decision. The competition will be held at four sites, Wankhede Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, and MCA Stadium in Pune.
The teams would practise in a bio-bubble environment at the Bandra-Kurla Complex and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, the DY Patil Sports Complex in Navi Mumbai, and the MCA Grounds in Kandivali or the facility in Thane, according to the Board.
“We will take a call on the playoff stages at a later date,” said a BCCI official, who attended the meeting.
Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium will each hold 20 matches, while Brabourne and the MCA Stadium in Pune will host 15 games.
However, there is a chance that the playoffs would be held in Ahmedabad. The IPL was originally scheduled to begin on March 27, however the broadcaster Star Sports requested that the competition begin on a Saturday.
Meanwhile, during the first week, the Board has decided to allow 50% of spectators, with a maximum of 75% allowed after that.
