Dhanbad, Oct 30: Jailed former BJP MLA Sanjiv Singh has filed a bail petition in the court of District and Sessions Judge  Akhilesh Kumar Singh for treatment in a super-specialty hospital.

Sanjiv Singh’s lawyer Md Javed today applied for a bail petition saying that the former two-time Jharia MLA has been suffering from seven different diseases. The Medical Board of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Ranchi has recommended his treatment at AIIMS Delhi as there are no treatment facilities in Ranchi and Dhanbad hospitals.

“Notwithstanding this, the Dhanbad jail administration is not sending the ex-MLA to AIIMS Delhi for treatment at his own cost. So grant bail to him,” said Md Javed in his petition to the court.

At present, the two-time (2009, 2014)  former Jharia MLA has been admitted to RIMS Ranchi in judicial custody since  August 11, 2023.

Sanjiv Singh has been in jail since 2017 in connection with the murder of his cousin  Neeraj Singh ( former deputy mayor of Dhanbad).

He fell in the washroom of the Dhanbad jail and when his health condition became serious he was admitted to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad on July 11.

On the recommendation of SNMMCH doctors and the Dhanbad Medical Board, Sanjiv Singh was referred to RIMS Ranchi for proper treatment. His diseases were not cured there and the Medical Board referred him to AIIMS Delhi.

Sanjiv Singh’s lawyer has pleaded in the court today that the Dhanbad jail administration has so far not sent him to Delhi for treatment while his condition is deteriorating day by day. He now does not even recognize people due to complications.

However, Public Prosecutor (PP) Samit Prakash has opposed the bail petition.

Notably, the lower courts and the Jharkhand High Court have rejected his bail petitions thrice and twice respectively.
