New Delhi, Feb 1: A major landslide occurred in NH-44 near the Rampari area in Banihal town of Jammu  Kashmir on Wednesday. As a result of this, National Highway 44 has been closed for vehicular traffic following a landslide.

The Deputy Commissioner of Ramban district said that people have been advised to follow advisories issued by the J&K traffic police. Further, he said, “People are advised to follow J&K Traffic Police advisories.”

Notably, the landslide near Rampadi occurred hours after the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway reopened for traffic after two days. The highway remained closed for vehicular traffic for two days in a row due to shooting stones and mudslides triggered by rains at several places between Chanderkot and Banihal.

The highway was blocked on Monday due to heavy rains and landslides at Panthyal in the Ramban district. The Jammu-Srinagar national highway is the main route that connects the Kashmir valley to the rest of India.

The deputy commissioner of Ramban district has advised people to follow advisories issued by the J&K traffic police. “People are advised to follow J&K Traffic Police advisories,” said Deputy Commissioner, Ramban.

Sharing an update regarding the closure of the highway, J&K Traffic Police tweeted, “Jammu-Srinagar NHW still blocked due to mudslide at Rampari, Wagan Banihal”.
