Jamshedpur, June 3: The Jharkhand State Council of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) today organised a half-day workshop on New Labour Law Codes 2020 and its impact on the industry at the Rusi Mody Centre for Excellence in Bistupur.
The speakers at the workshop pointed out that with time, the web of existing labour laws needed an overhaul to ensure that it keeps up with the dynamic business environment and at the same time act as a major catalyst for ease of doing business.
On one hand, a progressive labour law was the need of the hour to attract investments and to generate employment in the country, on the other hand ensuring that workers’ rights are not compromised was equally important.
With the introduction of comprehensive labour reforms, which subsume 29 central laws into four broad codes on wages; industrial relations; occupational safety, health and working conditions (OSH) and social security, the government aims to catapult India to among the 10 countries in World Bank’s ease of doing business rankings.
The workshop focused on the proposed changes with respect to Jharkhand on Wage Code and the IR Code.
Rajesh Prasad, deputy labour commissioner and additional registrar (Trade Union, department of labour, employment, training and skill development, Government of Jharkhand) was the main speaker.
Businessmen, corporates (Manufacturing, Trading and Service Industry), HR Operations Heads and labour law practitioners participated in the deliberations.
