Jamshedpur, Feb 13: The court of additional district judge- I, Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay on Monday sentenced a 26-year-old youth to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty in a case of kidnapping-cum-rape of a minor.

The court, which is also a special court for POCSO, slapped a penalty of Rs 35,000 on the convict, failing to pay which he will have to serve an additional jail term.

The case was registered with the Patamda thana in April 2021 and the convict was Mohini Singh alias Sagar.

According to the prosecution, the convict who is a resident of Patamda had forced a 13-year-old girl to sit on his motorcycle on the morning of April 19 while she was on her way to her school. Having kidnapped the minor, the youth had raped her after taking her to a secluded place.

Later, the victim revealed the matter to her parents, and her father lodged an FIR with the Patamda thana against Sagar, leading the police to arrest the accused immediately.

According to the prosecution, Sagar wanted to marry the minor who is a resident of the same village as the convict and had kidnapped her once earlier also.

The court convicted Sagar on the basis of a medical examination of the victim and as many as nine witnesses.
