Jamshedpur, Jan 23: Acting on a tip-off, police stopped two cars and after checking found 78 kgs of marijuana from the vehicles at a checking point under the Baharagora thana area in the Ghatsila sub-division.

While seizing the smuggled consignment of marijuana, the police also arrested seven persons, including the smuggler.

Revealing the breakthrough, East Singhbhum district superintendent of police (Rural) Mukesh Lunayet said that one Rajdeep Singh was smuggling marijuana from Andhra Pradesh’s Vijay Nagar via Odisha to Jamshedpur as the police could know about this all and finally succeeded to bust the gang with the smuggled stuff.

“We had information that two vehicles carrying the marijuana are coming from Odisha through NH-33. Following the specific information, a team was set up under the leadership of SDPO, Ghatsila, Kuldeep Toppo which intercepted the cars at a checking point in Kaliadanga under the Baharagora thana area and nabbed the gang with the marijuana,” said Lunayet while talking to the media at a press conference at Ghatsila on Sunday evening.

The rural SP said those arrested were three from Ghatsila and as many from Baharagora and one from Dumariya block in the Ghatsila sub-division.

The senior police officer said Rajdeep Singh who is the smuggler divulged that he had bought the marijuana at a rate of Rs 30,000 a kg from Vijay Nagar and had planned to sell out the stuff at Jamshedpur.
