Jamshedpur, Jan 3: Police on Tuesday unfolded the mystery behind the burglary worth Rs 2.1 crores which took place at businessman Ajay Modi’s house in the Rajendranagar area of Sakchi on October 9, 2022.

Ajay Modi’s younger brother Shailesh Modi had conspired to the burglary with the help of five notorious criminals during a period when the victim was out of the station with his family.

Having investigated the case during the past two months, the police succeeded to unravel the case and all the six persons involved in the crime, including Shailesh Modi.

The other five who have been arrested are Pervez Alam Ansari, Rahamatulla Ansari, Niranjan Gaud, Mohammad Afroz and Sheikh Israfil.

The police have recovered Rs 7.7 lakhs from those arrested and have also seized electrical domestic appliances like a refrigerator, washing machine, water purifier and TV set beside a car and a motorcycle that the arrested persons had bought from the cash burgled at the house of Ajay Modi.

Apart from the domestic appliances and vehicles, the police recovered crowbars, iron-cutting equipment and a ladder that had been used in committing the crime.

Revealing the breakthrough, senior SP, Prabhat Kumar said that though Shailesh Modi would reside with family at a portion of the same house where Ajay Modi would reside, the former conspired in the burglary inviting criminals because he was zealous of his elder brother.

“In October’s first week, when Ajay Modi had gone out of the station with family, Shailesh considered it to be a golden opportunity for conspiring the burglary at his brother’s house. The criminals had spent three-four days stealing cash and jewellery from the victim’s house, ” said Kumar while addressing a press conference this evening.

He said the criminals had taken away about Rs 50 lakhs cash and jewellery over Rs 1.5 crores from the house.

The senior police officer pointed out that the burglars had succeeded to take away the cash and valuables as Shailesh Modi was well aware of every nook and corner of his brother’s house.

The senior SP said that the team led by additional SP, Shubhansu Jain which cracked the case is trying to detect the burgled jewellery.
