Jamshedpur, July 21: A teenage girl committed suicide after she was pressurised to have physical relations by a private police driver engaged in Sitaramdera thana of the steel city.

Identified as Gauri Mukhi (17), the girl hanged herself in the bathroom on Friday morning hours after she was pressed for accepting the police driver’s proposal, an ordeal the victim had been bearing for the past two months.

Soon after the suicidal matter spread in the area, residents of Sitaramdera Harijan Bustee, the locality the victim would reside, staged a blockade on the Slag Road in Sitaramdera along with the girl’s body demanding the arrest of the accused police driver immediately.

Daughter of Gomo Ravidas, Gauri Mukhi had recently taken admission in Tinplate Women’s College but would remain tensed ever since the police driver identified as Rocky had fallen after her to outrage her chastity.

Significantly, Gauri’s mother Punam Mukhi is presently lodged in Ghaghidih Central Jail after she was arrested for selling marijuana.

According to Gomo Ravidas, Rocky and another person identified as Pratap Mukhi would not only intimidate Gauri for developing physical relations with her but would also assault her.

“The accused Rocky and Pratap had on Thursday evening barged into his house and had asked my daughter to accept Rocky’s demand for having physical relation with him. When she refused to do anything as such, the two assaulted her before leaving my house. In the morning my daughter committed suicide, ” explained an apparently helpless Ravidas while talking to the media.

The road blockade lasted for over two hours before it was cleared following the intervention of senior police officers.

Sitaramdera thana OC in-charge, Vishwanath, however, rubbished the claim of the victim’s family that the private driver of the Sitaramdera thana had caused the teenage girl to commit suicide.

“It is true that the girl’s mother is now lodged in jail for peddling marijuana, but no thana driver as such had demanded to develop physical relation with the deceased, ” claimed Vishwanath.

The OC in charge, however, admitted that Rocky used to work as a private police driver till two years ago, adding that investigation into the matter is on.
