Jamshedpur, April 1: Tension gripped the Haldipokhar area under the Kowali thana area near Jamshedpur on Friday night after a section of people hailing from a pocket dominated by the ‘minority’ community pelted stones at a Ramnavami procession.

In the stone-pelting incident, five persons, including the Circle Officer of Potka Imtiad Ahmed were injured.

As a result of the trouble triggered by the stone-pelting, the procession was disrupted for about an hour, but after the intervention of several sensible persons in the area, the processionists resumed the procession and immersed the jhanda in a local water body.

But the aggrieved Akhara organisers had soon declared a Haldipokhar bandh on Saturday in protest against the stone-pelting act. As a result of the bandh call, the shops and business establishments in Haldipokhar remained shut today.

The weekly ‘haat’ which is held every Saturday also remained closed today.

In view of the tense situation at Haldipokhar, police deployment has been made in the tiny township of Haldipokhar. SDO, Dhalbhum, Piyush Kumar and SP (Rural) Mukesh Lunayat are camping there.

“The situation in Haldipokhar is now peaceful now. We have identified some of those who were indulged in stone-pelting on the Ramnavami procession on Friday night. More persons are being detected. Stern action will be taken against the elements indulged in the act, ” said Lunayat while talking to lagatar24.com.

Significantly, a section of people had resorted to stone-pelting at a Ramnavami procession in Jugsalai area of the steel city on Friday night, causing the locality to get tense.  Five police men were injured in the stone-pelting incident.
