Jamshedpur, Feb 24: A 22-year-old youth was killed as the car he was on a joyride along with four other youths rammed into a stationary container on NH-33 near Deuri temple under Tamar thana area about 70 km away from Jamshedpur past midnight.

Four others who were in the car sustained grievous injuries and have been admitted to Tata Main Hospital.

The youth killed was identified as Prince Chowbey,  a resident of Transport Colony in Adityapur.

On Thursday night, Prince, son of businessman Umesh Chowbey, attended the ‘Tilak’ ceremony of a friend at Baba Kutir in Adityapur. After the ceremony was over his friends decided to go on a long drive and hence he accompanied his friends on a joyride to the NH-33 around midnight and eventually met a mishap.

After the car had hit the container, all five were lying senseless. A patrolling party rescued them and rushed them all to a nearby government-run health hub where Prince was declared as brought dead.

The police identified the victims from the Aadhaar cards of some of the victims and from the car’s registration number. A cell phone of one of the victims finally made the police reach the kin concerned. Then family members rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Tata Main Hospital for better treatment.

A pall of gloom fell in the Transport Colony as the news of Prince’s accidental death spread in the locality on Friday morning.
